Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving All!

Well another Thanksgiving and another holiday brunch at work. Unfortunately for me I have to work 5am-5pm, but I am still tremendously thankful I have a job. So what am I thankful for this year. Well the usual stuff of course, family, friends, the fact that I'm healthy. But there is more...

I'm thankful for...

DVR- Without which I would have to resort to a) not watching my favorite shows..like GLEE, General Hospital, Castle, Grey's Anatomy, My Boys, etc. b) a VCR that has to require someone to push a button to record my shows, plus fast forwarding commercials is a pain.

Flat Irons- I remember the days of hours spent trying to straighten my naturally curly hair, money spent on frizz ease hair serum and then still the moment I walk into the humid air of Atlanta -BOOM- FRIZZ ! I heart my flat iron.

Headbands- This is a trend I have always loved and I am super thankful that they are back and in full force. Thank you Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girls. :)

Pittsburgh Sports Teams- Enough Said.

Cake Eaters - As a pastry chef I am thankful for all the people who eat and love all of my desserts. You are the reason I have a job.

Wishbones- All the wishbones the chefs at work plucked out of the turkeys so I could get my wishes:) (you all know how I love to wish on everything:)

YOU- Anyone who takes the time to read my little blog, I am incredibly thankful for you! Please keep reading and become a follower:)

40 days

There are 40 days until Christmas, how can this be? I'm not ready for it yet, I haven't started Christmas Shopping, I haven't started saving money for the presents, and today it was 75 degrees outside. So I ask again, How can this be??

Yesterday I was in the mall and all the Christmas decorations were in full effect as children were waiting in line to sit on Santa's lap. I'm not even ready for it to be Thanksgiving yet. I'm so behind and today the panic hit me. How on earth will I get everything done in time. All the shopping and decorating, while its the busiest time for me at work. Next week starts my descend into Pumpkin Pie oblivion. I need to bake 25 pumpkin pies just to get through Thursday of next week. Is that insane? I think so. Oh how I wish I had one of those jobs that allowed me to enjoy the holidays. I wish I didn't have to worry about scheduling, and flambe stations, and Christmas cookies for thousands of people. But alas this is what I signed up for.

So What have I had time for... a little on-line perusing. Are you looking for a special gift for someone? Here are some things I think are great. First up a charming little owl tee from FredFlare.

Or how about some fun sleep masks.

What are some things on your list for Santa?

Everybody needs a theme song!

On the show Ally McBeal (one of my personal favorites), Ally is told by her therapist that she needs to find her own theme song. A song that she can play in her head whenever times are though, or she's stressed or in her specific case when she sees a dancing baby. Ally chooses the song Tell Him by the exciters. As for me my theme is the Mary Tyler Moore theme. The lyrics are just so great and hopeful!

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to fake it.
You can have the town, why don't you take it.
You're gonna make it after all

How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big
And girl this time your all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving

Love is all around, no need to fake it.
You can have the town, why don't you take it.
You're gonna make it after all,
You're gonna make it after all.

So that's the song that's always playing in my head when I'm down.

I wish life was like an episode of Ally McBeal. A place where everyone has a theme song and the night is ended at a bar listening to Robert Downey Jr. and James Marsden singing Karaoke.

Here are some of my favorite Ally Mcbeal moments.. enjoy.

What is your theme??

A wish

"I'm shakin' the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I'm gonna see the world. Italy, Greece, the Parthenon, the Colosseum. Then, I'm comin' back here to go to college and see what they know. And then I'm gonna build things. I'm gonna build airfields, I'm gonna build skyscrapers a hundred stories high, I'm gonna build bridges a mile long... "- George Bailey

In Its a Wonderful Life, George Bailey get the chance to see what the world would be like if he never existed. Well I don't exactly wish that, but I do wish I would know how my life will turn out. Seriously the suspense is killing me, and for some reason I feel like my life hasn't started yet.

There are so many things I want to do, so many things I want to be. Not to say I don't like my job, because I do. But I want to do more. Baking is fun, but I always feel like I'm "waiting for the other shoe to drop", like one day I'll get fired and then I'll have nothing except a mortgage and a car payment.

I think I'm one of those people who could be pretty happy doing just about any profession. But shouldn't there be that "one" profession that's meant for you to do. I wish I had a thousand lifetimes to do all the jobs I want to do. I want to be a doctor, an actress, an ice-skater, a writer, a photographer, a florist, an artist, an orthodontist, and a lady of leisure. Along with a million other things. I want to be important. I figure if I were an actress I could at least play all these parts, but how does someone fall in to these careers. They say anything worth having is hard to get. Well do I work harder, or is everything chance and destiny? Am I doing what I am meant to do?

Oh how I wish I knew how this life is going to turn out.

Wishes

"I must depend on a wish and a star" - Marion

For anyone who knows me they know that I make wishes all day long, on anything I can find any significance in. Constantly hoping and desiring for my wish to be granted. Before I left to work in Paris my mom told me that every time you go in a new church you get 3 wishes. Well there are many churches in Paris and believe me every time I entered one I was ready with my wishes. Weather it's blowing out candles on a birthday cake, cutting the first slice of cake, wishing on a shooting star, or throwing pennies in a fountain, I'm always ready. I even go as far as to ask the chefs in the restaurant in which I work to save all the wishbones from the turkeys during Christmas and Thanksgiving.

So that brings me to the point of this topic. The other day I was driving to my friend Chris' house. The road to her house is quite and suburban. I was stopped at a stop sign when a red bird (not sure what kind) flew next to me and then landed right beside my car. It just seemed strangely odd. I stayed at the stop sign for a full 2 minutes just to see what this bird would do, it did nothing although I swear it was looking at me. I slowly pressed the gas pedal to drive away and as I looked in my rear view mirror the bird had turned around (facing the same direction I was traveling) and kept sitting there.

When I got home, being the eternal optimist that I am, I researched what it meant to see a red bird and here is what I came up with.

If a red bird flies in front of you, make a wish.

When you see a red bird, quickly spit three times. If the bird has not disappeared from sight by the third spit, you can make a wish.

If you hear a bird singing in the rain, make a wish.

If two birds fly toward you in unison, quickly make a wish. If you finish your wish before they change direction or pass you, it will come true.

If three birds perch together on one wire, make a wish. If you finish your wish before any of them fly away, it will come true.

If you see a flock of birds, cross your legs and make a wish.
(England)

If a flock of birds you didn't know was there suddenly rises from a field and flies over your head, quickly make a wish so the birds can take it with them.

If you find an empty bird's nest, you get a wish.

If it has part of an eggshell in it, you get two wishes.

So all in all maybe I'm a little cooky and take wishing a little too far at times. Maybe wishes do only come true in Fairy Stories, but until they come true I suppose I will still keep wishing.
