"The sheer number of distinguished buildings is astonishing for a city of Savannah's size." -- John Berendt, Author of Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil.
“Savannah would be better for you. You just get in trouble in Atlanta.”
Mammy, in Gone With the Wind
This past week I went to Savannah, Ga to help open Avia hotel. My mom came with me so that we could hang out after work. The first day I arrived and saw the hotel, we went and got some drinks at Wet Willies on River Street and then headed to Vinni Van Gogos in city market for some delicious pizza before I went to work for the evening. My first night of work was great! The staff was extremely nice and welcoming and I taught them how to make the desserts for the menu.
The next day I went back down to the kitchen to finish the desserts up and set up a la carte for a dinner they were having for the executives of the hotel. Everything seemed to go well and I was dismissed to enjoy the rest of my stay at the hotel as a guest. So I went and changed and my mom and I headed to Beauforts for a fantastic meal, I had the shrimp and grits. Then we walked all over and went in and out of the little shops before returning to our rooms.
Then on Friday we decided to take the trolley tour around the city to see all the squares. It was a lot of fun and very interesting. We walked all over, getting off at each of the stops and walked around, did a lot of shopping and just had a lovely time. The tour is excellent. They tell you all the history, and its nice to see all the charming little houses. Later that evening we walked over to Paula Deen's restaurant Lady and Sons. Despite all the controversial opinions I had heard about the restaurant I was pleased with my meal. I feasted on the "Shore is good seafood dip and the Crap stuffed shrimp" and it was very enjoyable.
All in all a lovely weekend spent in Savannah.
